What is the RAL Classic system?

RAL is the European colour standard for paints and coatings. Each four-digit code maps to one defined colour, so “RAL 7016” means the exact same anthracite grey to any manufacturer or painter, anywhere — no physical sample needed. It's used mainly on window frames, doors, façades, gates, railings and powder-coated metal.

RAL on interior walls

RAL is defined for industrial coatings, not wall paint. To use a RAL colour indoors, match it to a real interior brand — every code page here shows the nearest Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Behr, Dulux and other equivalents, with codes, so you can buy it as a can. Have a hex instead? Use the HEX → RAL converter.

Built by DSGN.HOUSE Updated 2026

Our color tools run on our own catalogue of 26,000+ real paint colors across 16 brands — Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Behr, Dulux, RAL and more — with the color math (HSL and CIELAB matching) computed in-house, not scraped from summaries. Every color you pick maps to a real, buyable paint with its code, so what you see here you can actually take to the store. We review and update these tools and their data regularly.
